Re: GG's everyone
I will first-person part of what I was telling roncli, whom you owe an apology to. I take this game seriously too, but not like this elitist behavior you're displaying Lee. Sometimes I'll run out of steam or a score spread is wide due to my own bad decisions or bad breaks. I may have been guilty of stuttering due to extreme anger at myself and end up making things worse like running into my own proxies or missiles hitting too close to walls but I try to motivate for a miracle run or try something extreme to shake things up but that's not throwing games. You are blowing this out of proportion with your nasty comments and I don't know why. It seems each game we play anymore you scrutinize me and the outcome and just play mean. Take the algorithm bonus and the ladder and celebrate that you got under my skin one last time. I'm ignoring this practice BS. Keep your rude comments to yourself, you're only making yourself look bad.

I have decided to delete this post having been asked to politely. It said “ra ra ra swarthy is a bad person”. I don’t want to take part on this thread anymore and haven’t read the subsequent posts. I don’t intend to either

As I sit in my seat and hear the things being exchanged, not only do I hear the personal conflict and hate between you too, but I also see this once flourishing friendship cripple and fall apart. I promised via discord I would avoid participating in this drama, but I feel I need to jump in the ring once more. Although you may call me hypocritical, this is a very pointless way to end a friendship, one that quite literally was ripped away in seconds, only rightfully done by the both of you. I understand that this conflict has been an issue for a while, and I also understand the instant need to intercept a friendship for a point, but you guys are better than this. I remain here, fighting as you and swarthy are only to come to the realization that what we fantasize, belove, and desire ultimately is the one thing we subconsciously belittle with our actions and words. Words straight from Swarthy himself: "The ladder is not why we play this game. Not anymore. Maybe if there were hundreds of players. But no. It’s a place to draw like-minded competitive people who specifically love this particular 23-year-old game together in a community of now friends who just can’t seem to uninstall it or even imagine enjoying any other game quite like this one. We are a tribe of friends and some of us are missing and because of that more of us are leaving." Both of you, I at times have looked up to as icons for your own self-inflicted characteristics. Lee with your corny, witty humor, and Swarthy with your Charming, and Happy presence. I know both of you personally to a certain level because of this long interaction we've both had, and this what is being presented today, is not either of you guys, not even close. I know both of you to be kind, reluctant, and wise about decisions that you very well know can turn south in a second. I have photos, and chat logs from you Swarthy, encouraging me for my promos and telling me that I am a good pilot, telling me that the community does appreciate me, and that's who I know you to be, not some savage forum knight THIS ISN'T YOU. And lee! This very well isn't you. When I came to the DCL for the first time, you encouraged me to play, came to me with open arms and even gave me kills for endurance encouragement. Not only are you ethical, but you are wise. This, however, is not wise. I solemnly believe that beneath this heap of hate and pixels, you both have a renown love for each other, one that really is uncompromisable on the surface. Both of you are commendable in many ways, at times, to each other also. Which is why I ask, do you really want this? Both of you have expressed that you hate to see the downfall of not only of the DCL community as a whole but the friendships made within it. The very texts that you send, along with the roasts and boasts, are internally hurting not only the community but also the bond we all developed over time. It really hurts for me to watch this once amazing friendship turn into a pile of dust because of a DCL or two. Please, reconsider your viewpoint of each other, and maybe even reconsider the viewpoint of competitiveness. As DCL's by nature are competitive, through this community and context, it is casual, with the foundation of trust, and friendship. It is too hard to watch both of you go, especially because of a quick quarrel in a game. We've all had amazing moments together, some unforgettable, dont let this separate the once beautiful thing we had.
Before you decide to participate in the downfall of the DCL, take a look back at its history and accomplishments: http://web.archive.org/web/201301150000 ... mpions.org

[EDIT] To stay true my proposition, I will unretire to avoid hypocrisy.
Remeber this Swarthy?:

I was confused why Lee was reacting so strongly (and at times just being out of line like 2 posts up), so I talked with him for awhile. If someone crumbles in a match and isn't playing how they normally play or is throwing to some extent he views this is a personal insult to him. He mentioned this to swarthy twice in the past, so on the third time he felt it was an intentional insult.
I have played against swarthy in for fun 1v1s where I have seen some 'throwing' ish behavior just as Lee describes (flying upside down, damaging himself). I don't doubt that it happened to some extent... but I think the mistake Lee makes is failing to factor in that the negative mental state the opponent is in is an outcome caused by you. When someone does that to me (Jedi has done it to me) I view it as a compliment. I played so well that they snapped and stopped playing normally -- and it often isn't something they overtly decided to do to cheapen the game. Lee views it as that person trying to take the value/skill of the win away from him. I don't think its as quite black and white as that. People in bad mental states are reacting to the negative things they feel (frustration, anger, etc) and aren't necessarily trying to extract a pound of flesh from their opponent or piss them off. They're bothered with themselves, consumed with themselves. Is it that the way it should be? No... but I don't think it makes them a coward or an embarrassment as a person. That's where I think you are crossing the line Lee. I mean we've all seen people on OBS quit in a match at some point, or at least for a few kills. Instead of calling them a dick, we usually just feel bad *for them* because we know they were in a bad mental state. The score is already a punishment.

I hate to say it....but I wholeheartedly agree with Birdseye on this one.
I personally take this game way too seriously. I always intend to give 110% in every game I play. DCL, OBS, NON-DCL....doesn't matter. I try just has hard vs the newest newbie as I do vs a Diamond player.
Despite this intention, there are times where things go horribly wrong in a game. An unlucky direct smart missile death followed by a spawn kill and then I just lose it mentally for maybe a kill or two before I can pull myself back together and try for a 2nd half Jedi moment.
I've completely lost it vs cyrus or rethink for much more than 2 or 3 kills....but kudos to them for being part of making me lose my focus and make very poor decisions. All I am saying is that I believe in giving 110% and giving my opponent my BEST at ALL TIMES.....but I also admit that I have failed to provide this at times. In this way I am a lot like Swarthy. So do you view me the same as Swarthy?
I think Birds is right and that you are taking it as an intentional insult and I find it hard to believe that was the case. He likely lost his self control and his anger misguided his decisions. That is what often happens to me.
I believe both of you take this game very seriously and both want to do really well and it's incredibly frustrating when we don't live up to our own expectations. Lee, I don't think you have to kick Swarthy while he is down. I think he was punishing himself in those games....not you.
Love you both!

yeah, there's a difference between someone getting frustrated and playing badly, and someone disrespecting you by intentionally tanking a game.
I've seen intentionally tanked games, where someone is literally running around trying to find missiles so he can suicide fresh off spawn faster than the other player can hunt him down. But I've also seen games where someone eats 5 smarts in a row and it's because they were just trying to change things up and the other player guessed right 5 times in a row, and there's been a "tanking" allegation that just wasn't true. I've also personally suicided in a promo match, and come back and fought a long engagement with laser 1's, which some people thought was throwing the game except that I knew the other guy was low, got the kill, and ran off 4 straight because he didn't know I'd left the guns in the secret behind the fan. If it hadn't worked it sure would've looked like tanking, but it was a desperation move that happened to work.
Sometimes it's just bad play. Sometimes it's bad luck. Sometimes it's a hail mary that didn't work out. Rarely it's actually throwing a match.
