Re: Ascend Observatory Pllleeeeasseee
The spinning is caused by having too many reactor cubes. Eliminate them all and it will go away. Then start adding them back strategically. You have about 50 to work with. When I'm close to the line, I add them one at a time and test the mission until I find the limit.
Generally, I keep the cubes in a single layer and add reactor cubes above columns. If I have to to cover the level in 50, I add them above lower rooms. If I have extras, I use cubes above to fill in gaps, but I deform the cubes so they cover several obs cubes. If you totally run out, it's best to leave the unprotected cubes as far from the entrance as possible.
... though it occurs to me just now that there is an easier way.
The missile spawning algorithm looks a limited distance away for a place to spawn missiles, and that distance is defined in cubes. I think it's 25? I'd have to check. Anyway, if you made the entrance to the obs area 25 reactor cubes long, missiles couldn't get in. No need for the geometric judo.
I should test that. That would make building an obs level MUCH easier.

Oh, nope, nope, nope, I tried that two years ago and it didn't work. Sometimes it spawns based on the observers. Yeah you gotta cover the obs area.

Ok that makes sense. I looked at your logic obs and that explained a lot too. You leveled off the map cubes to create a platform in which to add cubes above map. As I add reactor cubes, I have found an optimal pattern (reactor, normal, normal, rector) and I am coloring them red and checking the pattern before connecting them. Thank you for the info because now I can just assembly line these cubes. And omg after idk how many years of using this program I just embarrassingly found the mirror cube option!!!!!!! Now I don't have to customize every *^%$%^ing cube!!! This will be a breeze!!

I believe this is the most efficient placement on an infinite grid. Knight's moves.
Not that a descent level is ever an infinite grid.

Ok thanks to your help Drakona I've got a handle on this and it's not that hard...just a pain mainly. I have an ascend-spy map ready for shipment...or at least some strong beta testing. I will put it in my dropbox for now until someone shows me the place where you want to keep maps. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kbbnpm98cpsyl ... y.zip?dl=0
