they fire in exactly the same direction and from the same spot (that was the Retro fix "sniper packets"), but the relative timing differs by your ping (on average).

I still don't think that the bob is taken into account here.. I could sit next to a corner sideways not moving only bobbing and shoot a flair. On my screen it would hit the corner while on the other persons screen it passes the corner because their client thinks that I shot at the peak of the bob but I really shot at the bottom. I already showed so many others and talked about it too much about six plus month ago. Many people did the same thing as explained.

Ah -- yeah, my bad. The fire packets do contain the orientation of the shot, so that's exact. They don't contain the position though. I had originally wanted to do that, which is why I remembered it wrong -- but never got around to it. The shot it actually comes out where the other guy thinks your ship is. Now, that'll be off by lag, but it *should* be the same lag that affects the fire packets, so while the position may not be identical, it should be darn close. Like, unless there's some network weirdness such that packets are arriving out of order or getting dropped, no more than your ship can accelerate from one packet to the next.

I don't think it's the bob, though. The bob is transmitted as part of the ship positions. You can see that people who disconnect and leave ships behind stop bobbing.
