Re: Please share your controller setup and why you chose it.
how do you roll right, slide right and move forward/backward at the same time?
edit: but some good pilots have equally cumbersome setups. *cough* cyrus *cough*

Simultaneously? Uhhhh I guess I don't that often really, but I've never really thought about it as a hindrance.

I know it's probably holding me back in the modern game, but I just can't let the joystick go. Here's my boring setup (note the redundancies):
Stick: Thrustmaster t16000
y-axis: Pitch
x-axis: Yaw
Twist axis: Roll
Main buttons/triggers: Primary/secondary/flare
Hat: Slide in all four directions
WASD: Accel./reverse/slide LR
E: Flare
L Shift: proxy
Space: Afterburner in D2, Fire secondary in D1
T: The all-important energy-shield converter in D2
Number keys are the default weapons/missiles
L Alt: Push-to-talk
Stick: Thrustmaster t16000
y-axis: Pitch
x-axis: Yaw
Twist axis: Roll
Main buttons/triggers: Primary/secondary/flare
Hat: Slide in all four directions
WASD: Accel./reverse/slide LR
E: Flare
L Shift: proxy

The layout is very similar to a typical first person shooter on the Xbox except for the paddles. Left stick is movement and right stick is aiming. Triggers are for primary and secondary weapons. The paddles do the banking and sliding vertically. The abxy buttons do not aid in flying, but used for choosing weapons quickly.
This layout is efficient because I can do all descent functions (i.e sliding, banking, throttle, AB, bombs, aiming, rearview, flairs, switching weapons ) at the same time without strain. Tricording is easy, bank slightly then move the left stick at the 10 or 2 o clock positions.
The profiles help with certain weapons. I can change different sensitivities on the fly. The fusion profile has low sensitivity where as the other profile is very sensitive. I play with no dead zone.
I use this setup because I dislike the keyboard, and the controller feels best in my hand.

Keyboard:
Forward: W
Backward: S
Slide Left: A
Slide Right: D
Slide Down: LShift
Slide Up: Space
PTT: Tab
Bank Right: Q
Bank Left: E
Mouse:
Primary: Left Mouse Button
Secondary: Right Mouse Button
Flare: Mid Button (Press)
Proxy: Mid Button (Wheel Up)
Rear View: Mouse Button (Wheel Down)
Weapon Cycle:
Left Cycle: Sidebar Mouse Button 1
Right Cycle: Sidebar Mouse Button 2
----------------------------------------------------
And that's it! Literally nothing else in my config. To me, fluidity is INCREDIBLY important, as well as comfortability also. That's why I ultimately decided this was the right config for me. And could be for you! It is very similar to many games I played previously, namely, Minecraft which gave me a familiarity with the controls right off the wazoo. So it might take longer to learn with than me. I think its quite Ergonomic on the hands also! If you try the layout on your keyboard you notice that your hands are in a Bearclaw kind of position it's not scattery, or all over the place Its peaceful. Menuveravillity is also something I always desire, and this config gave me exactly that. Regarding the Weapon Cycle, Yeah its strange but IMO, it's incredibly fast in combat If you know what your cycle is based on the weapon on hand. I've had many questions that specific config choice and I'm content on defending my stance on it. Give it a whirl Swarths, It got me in Gold, it can with you too.

Roll index and middle down for A s S banking and burner
Chose this config because old keyboards wouldnt allow multiple keys for tri-cording, this config allowed all directions to work. VERY easy to switch Directions also.
I also use this config on all other games.
for Joystick, i switch Space to forward, and secondary is thumb joystick button.
