Io has a good shell. Take out the reactor, add 2nd copies of weapons that only have 1, and it's fine.

True, just like Logic x4 is not Logic.

The main issue here is that Descent has a steep enough skill curve. It doesn't really need snowballing, and Io promotes it. I think the DCL's core levels do its best to prevent it. While I personally don't get how people don't get June Bug ^_^ I can live with the reason why it's not considered for core.

As an aside, I always thought Descent 3 handled snowball prevention nicely with its powerup spawn style, something I've always preferred over D1/2 even though I really love taking advantage of predictable missile spawn locations that happen frequently in D1/2.

My memory matches Morf's... I could've sworn Io was core in Fall 2014.
