Core Level Discussion - E19

Yeah . . . probably should switch the seasons, huh?

Here's what I show for core level statistics over the last six months:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

By the usual methodology, this would make the following levels core:

Logic, Droideka, Ascend, Audacity, Flea, Mindtrix, Crimson, Lurk, Ethylene, and Fuzed. RIP is marginal, but well placed in three categories and close in the fourth - we should probably take it as well.

Compared to the current core list, we lose Cronos and gain Ethylene.

By the usual methodology, the following additional levels are extended core:

Mythena, Cronos, Athena, Black Rose, Wrath, And Take2. Ugh, (Untitled), and Lagrange ii are marginal (but we pretty much always keep marginal extended core levels).

Cronos is an interesting case - it did make the top 10 in one category, which means we could consider it marginal core - it's a judgement call - but it missed the other three by a lot, so it's not a strong statistical case for broad play, particularly given that it has a boost for already being core. I'd be inclined to put it in extended, but I would definitely defer to the opinion of people who are . . ya know . . actually playing.

I intend to switch the seasons over tonight, but please discuss if the changes the statistics suggest are unreasonable for competition. Is Ethylene somewhere you would like to play promotion challenges or does something make it unsuitable? Would you really like to keep Cronos core for some reason? We can modify the list in the first few days of the season if the starting place doesn't suit.

All of this sounds pretty good -- not sure what I can offer as the resident hyperactive bronze here. Cronos is indeed an interesting case as a lot of people seem to play it as part of a series that includes Logic, or if they're looking for a more casual, faster game in a Logic-esque level.

RIP occupies similar headspace for me as Take2 -- might be aesthetics, might be game feel. They're kind of like a salt and pepper -- keep them together (in extended core, it looks like)!

Fuzed is a surprise tbh -- it doesn't seem particularly well-liked, and I haven't noticed too many people itching to play it. Mythena's seen a lot of play in the last few, uh, weeks? Months? Surprised that didn't make it instead.

Excited to see Black Rose in extended core, really been enjoying that one.

I would prefer cronos in, but it's nbd.

You know, I missed this - Mythena could be considered marginal core as well, but it's a big miss on all stats but matches played. About as far off as Cronos.

I agree with this list, including Ethylene being in core. I'd like Cronos and Mythena in core as well, but I understand them being at the boundary.

I'd switch Mythena into core and bump Athena personally -- almost double matches played, 7 over 4 play-twicers and 16 over 12 unique pairs. I think that better captures what's being played with regularity than Athenas 13 over 9 unique players.

Healthy list of core, wouldn't even mind RIP being extended but can see the case for making it core.

SHIP IT!

from a pure stats perspective I'd include RIP and stop there.

From a gameplay perspective that seems like a nice level of variety as well. There are some lower and higher missile levels, some levels with lots of doors and some with none, some that are more dogfight-focused and some less so, but nothing that's weird enough it'd be uncomfortable to play in a promo challenge.

Not a bad list! I'm sorta okay with this.

Very Cool.

I Approve.
