Okay, a lot of pilots have been helping test the P2P update for D1, and it's looking pretty stable. So here's a version for wider review and feedback. Consider this a pre-release / for-discussion / kinda-stable version. Take a look at the features, play with them, if anything seems broken or is something you don't like . . . this is the time and place to discuss it!

Change log / technical description: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/146 ... anges.html

Source code: https://github.com/CDarrow/DXX-Retro

I should have the D2 version out within the week, as soon as I'm reasonably confident the D1 version is finished.

1.3 is stable enough for a release candidate, and has been extended to D2.

D1: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/146 ... .3.RC2.exe

D2: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/146 ... .3.RC2.exe

Changes from X8 -

- A number of bugs with joining/starting games resolved
- Damage is logged (in gamelog.txt, for stats!)
- Kill goal limit raised to 100
- Kill goals in team games now refer to team score
- Spawn Preview Game Host Option

Additionally, D2 has been brought up to par. It also has:
- Fix for gauss ammo bug (you don't pick up ammo from other gauss cannons)
- Spawn With Burners host option

--------------

No more features. I'll give it a few days for any bugs to turn up, and then we'll call it done.

There was some discussion on the Rebirth forum about possible changes to ship size and speed in singleplayer. Is that true? (I'm a bit rushed now, more explanation later if needed).

No. I have absolutely not changed ship size or speed, in single player or any other mode. I have no intention of ever, ever doing such a thing.

Cap homing missiles to 5-10fps. Leave the purple stuff alone!

Retro 1.3 is done!

D1: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1462 ... ro-1.3.exe
D2: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1462 ... ro-1.3.exe

This is an official release.

The community needs time to understand the new options and to just play on a stable game, so I promise not to touch the it for a while. Unless some particularly painful bug crops up, for the next few months, all I have to say about changes to Retro is 'no hablo inglés'. ;)

Changes from RC2:

- Spawn preview: The key you tapped to spawn didn't used to control your ship. Now it does.

- Spawn preview: Explosions that rocked your ship after death also rocked the camera

- D1 weapon multipliers could make too many copies sometimes

- Tracker registration message was wrong length (Credit -- Adam Gensler / Arch)

- Changes to message format in RC2 broke Icewolf's gamespy tool. It is now unbroken.

- Direct / P2P connections sometimes failed when they shouldn't have.

- Players joining a restricted full game automatically receive "game full" message without bothering host.

- Quiet Plasma option removed from Misc Options menu

- Net games could get stuck in "Between Levels" state forcing program restart

- Integrated with game installer.

Thank you, thank you, THANK you to everyone for testing, analysis, criticism, ideas, and just generally keeping me from doing the wrong thing too much. It wouldn't be a tenth as good without you.
