The End or just frustation? ?

Hi fellas. ..

Im here today to find out a reason to keep playing Descent.

I love this game... And Unfortanently as everybody knows I live in Brazil. .. As Behemoth said on our Last LAN: 'This game was made to be played on LAN".

I hardly get 150ms against any pilot, and I love the competition (IDL, UDL and DCL).

Ive already quit the ladder for frustation about my Ping because I dont want to make anyone feel bad after a match, thinking that was an unfair match. I even let my opponent kill me after a good fight because I think it will be unfair the fact that Im still a live.

Im pretty sure that Im the only one that since 1995 feel this way...

I never made any kind of restriction about anyone, and if ive made, Im sorry. That wasnt on porpous. Unfortanently I kwon that there are a lot of ppl that just hates me for the fact that I exist.

After all this years I decided to play whoever WANTS to play me. I will never ask for a game anymore.

So if you want a game with me just ask for it and do your best.

I have a big problem on my side : you LAG. I hit a smart on your face and you are still alive, I nail you with fusion and you are still alive, I ruin you with vulcan and you are still alive, after all that Im still having fun!

I would like to thank Mark, Bubs, Behemoth, Drak, Dj, deimos and all the rest that still have FUN playing me. You make me alive in Descent.

And if you dont want to play me because I LAG or because you cant handle me, plz dont join the game Im playing to frustate me with bad WordS, you can play anywhere else.

Sorry for my bad english. And sorry if I hit anyone with my words.

I just dont want to stop playing it.

Best regards

LoNi_

I feel your pain. I hear it all the time and I complain about it all the time (I live in Japan.) I believe the best all around players wouldn't have a problem playing you. People that have to have the perfect conditions are not the best in my book (always been how I looked at it.) I'm not any good at the game but I'll play you anytime (with or without my hardware/software working properly.)

Loni, you're not a quitter, I lag too(lag works both ways. Duh)
But I still have fun playing you, even if you stomp me and vice versa.
Dont disappear, we need you here, I can't speak for others but I truly enjoy our games!

I am one of those people that absolutely get frustrated with your connection....to the point where I share the unpleasantness I feel. Should you quit playing? Of course not. Should you only play people that can handle your connection and handle it with grace...yeah, probably so.

Should I avoid playing games with you...probably so. Do I always make the right decisions........clearly not.

I don't wish for you to not play Descent....I wish for you to move to the states and have a great connection....but like Drakona tells me...I should just get used to being disappointed.

keep playing.

No way man, dont beat yourself up for anything like that.
When I said Descent is meant for LAN I meant the REAL descent.. Rebirth can hardly be called that, However, Thankfully with Drakona's patches we've had a closer experience to the original, Yet I still consider rebirth a different game.
As for lag, Your lag never bothered me. I enjoy playing with you because you're one of the only people not afraid to dogfight me without having a full arsenal of missiles or vulcan.
I hope we get to play soon man! I'm glad you're here!

Dude. I love our games. I've had only one or two games with you called off on account of lag, just on days where it's unusually and consistently bad, which is not really more than any other pilot. Everyone has bad internet days. For the most part, I don't even notice it! It's fine! Just part of the game!

I don't even mainly think of that when I think of you as a pilot. Mostly I think of you as impossible to rattle or frustrate, as a guy who doesn't make mistakes and doesn't leave me any margin to do anything stupid, as someone you've got to outthink because outflying doesn't always work, and as someone who contributed to my training and still has things to teach me. I'd miss you if you left!

Don't stop asking me for games just because I'm busy sometimes, ok? I'd miss playing you!

Whiners gonna whine. Should always insist on 10 kills of warmup before any DCL so your opponent can adjust to the ping. Issue isn't the lag so much as it's that you are the only one who is forced to stay habituated to dealing with 150-250ms pings. Keep playing, if only so the people who can't keep their frustrations under mature control are forced to marinate in the shame of their behavior.

Pshh. 10 kills? Adjust faster. ;)

I always do a mental tactics checklist before a game, right? "Ok, it's Mark392 in Blubird, don't rush at vulcan, see how well your fusion's working today, use spread but don't get stuck on it, that's a trap in this matchup." Adjust as I go, but I come in ready. My mental checklist for LoNi includes, "Don't count on defensive point-blank smart shots working" and "lead a little extra" and "try to keep encounters at medium range". It's a non-issue. I know what I'm up against, and I come in ready. :)

I agree with you, of course: it's my responsibility to be ready for whomever I'm playing against. My suggestion was merely intended to save LoNi the abuse of poorly-prepared pilots who might feel they have less of an excuse for unsportsmanlike comments if they get the shock of 200ms+ out of their system with a warm-up. The first few kills of a game with LoNi are heavily skewed in his favor since he is acclimated to high ping games while his opponent probably only plays at 150ms or above when they're playing against him. This isn't a complaint, it's just how it is. We can all deal with it maturely, as you've suggested, but it doesn't make sense to ignore it either.

(but yeah, maybe 10 kills is excessive ^_^)
