Let's Play D3 Break Out! Round #16!
Descent 3 pilots, how does a few games of Break Out sound?!?! It's been a while and I think it's definitely time we play it again.
For those who have never played this mod, Break Out is a team game where, if you are killed, you are sent to "jail". The goal is to jail all members of the opposite team before they can "BreakOut" (be set free by their team mates).
Follow this link to learn the rules and download the mod:
Date: Friday, April 22nd
Time: 9:00 pm EST
Place: Break Out in Alcatraz
This week I asked Krom to host just the one level, since we had such a blast last time we played there!
I think I should also mention that many of us like to meet on Mumble in the Descent Rangers channel, and whoever plays is more than welcome to join us!
Link to download Mumble: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/
Link to get to the channel: mumble://mumble.descentrangers.com:31393
We don't always use it strategically; sometimes it's just to taunt each other and have fun. But it makes it easier to keep track of what is going on.
These games can be found using the Descent trackers (such as http://www.descentservers.net/index.php?show=d3_server), but I will also provide IP addresses later on.
Please let me know if you plan to make it; I like having an idea of how many pilots are coming so I can lure more pilots in with the numbers.
This invite is being posted on the Descent Champion's Ladder forum, the Descent Bulletin Board and the Descendent Studios forum.
Thanks goes to Krom for hosting the servers for us!

OK, I seem to have a bit more time on my hands now ... I should be able to attend this one. Just wanna make sure, though: is that 9:00 PM EST, so no daylight saving time (UTC-05:00)? Or is it EDT (UTC-04:00)? I've seen players arrive an hour late to some past events because of time zone acronyms ... If it's UTC-04:00, my dinner will probably overlap the first hour or so, but hopefully there will still be games to be had afterward.

Hmm, I Googled UTC and it just confused me.
You said you are on pacific time, yes? I believe that is 3 hours behind EST. So, 6pm your time I believe.
Someone please correct me if I am mistaken here.
Glad you are coming Ryusei! See you tonight!

Ah I see, I should probably be saying "GMT" instead of "UTC"; I bet that wouldn't confuse people as often. Coordinated Universal Time is a successor to Greenwich Mean Time, but unless you're doing precise-to-the-second calculations, they're the same thing.
So people in the eastern United States are in Eastern Daylight Time right now (EDT or GMT-04:00). I'm in Pacific Daylight Time (PDT or GMT-07:00). When daylight saving time ends, those will change to Eastern Standard Time (EST or GMT-05:00) and Pacific Standard Time (PST or GMT-08:00). So yeah, always three hours apart - but if players show up from states and regions that don't use daylight saving time, or that begin and end DST on different dates than we do, things start getting ... "fun". In massive sarcastic air quotes. That's when GMT offsets are helpful.
Anyway, thanks for enduring my nerdiness. Looking forward to tonight!

My head almost exploded, but besides that, you're welcome, Ryusei.
Ok, pilots, we fly in about 45 minutes.
IP Address for Alcatraz: 69.131.84.7:2092
Prepare for Descent!

Thanks to everyone who made it out to play Break Out with us!
We had 7 pilots this time, including myself:
Dues
Ohnoes
Mickey1
Ryusei117
Tiger
Alloy
(^^^^Alloy is one of my brothers who doesn't play Descent often, but decided to hop in and fly with us! )(Perhaps poking fun at my name with that alias?!? I'll have to ask him about that )
We had a slow start, with only a couple pilots. But we had a few more join us and had an enjoyable time jailing each other and racing to try to exterminate the enemy team before we were exterminated ourselves. My team got hit pretty hard (where did my mass driver aim go?!?! heh) and we lost by quite a few points. I would love to play Break Out with like 12 people, then we could properly divide the team up and have 1 or 2 people guard base while everyone else hunts the enemy down. Too many times we would have almost everyone in jail and then find ourselves on the opposite side of the map while the single remaining enemy let his team mates out. oops. Teams were just too small to have someone stay in base all the time.
Good times though everyone, thanks!
Afterwards we had an "after party", as MentalFloss put it, playing some anarchy in Burning Indika 3.
Thanks guys!
Next game is planned for Friday May 6th. If there is a level you would like to play, let me know!
Until then, I'll see you in the mines!
