Attitudes. And also x4 Stuff.
Ok, just curious about the editing, ive been running on low sleep and this wouldnt be the first time that i have had a glitch over the past 48 hours. Also, lothar if you disrespect my mom's hashtags again i will END YOU!!
x4 obviously involves skill, but it's not like back in the day when you could just avoid shaker pilots. you have to put up with it; we have a kiddie pool's worth of players so it's not like we can agree to disagree and stay on our own ends of the pool. x4 is objectively an unbalancing of the game, i cant imagine anyone claiming x4 doesn't severely exaggerate parts of descent. its relative merit is completely subjective, but the winning point in this thread is that souljah doesnt get nh matches from jedi.
I can understand being annoyed by anti-X match comments but if jeds can hold his tongue, i kinda certain souljah puts up nothing more than a GG. His comment was proportional, even understated compared to Team X4's opening salvo. As for season one vs season x attitudes, most of the "bad" attitudes come from people whose primary form of expression is satire, imo. obloquy, merl and morfod are all characters, i dont understand how people dont get the joke. i dunno, maybe im missing a lot of the bad attitude, but it isnt generally worse than the example set by our leader and ime takes the form of caricatures of standard issue internet venom. except for mark, who occasionally makes little gibes disguised as good sportsmanship (love ya mark) Maybe I'm missing something, maybe im capable of letting the saltiness just roll off me because I'm not seeing anything EGREGIOUS. IMO, off the top of my head, the only people capable of intentional, unrepentant, genuinely dickish behavior are moh, jeds, lady silver and maybe ernie if you count the way he acts in game.

Also, just to be clear, i think i have genuinely good relationships with all the people I named. I generally happy they're in my life. Except for silver, she can rot! I know jeds is refraining from commenting on this, maybe because work, maybe because... i dunno. But I love talking shit with jeds in matches and i love experiencing the maximum heat of X4 once in awhile. I love you just the way you are!

I'm on vacation and thusly could have chosen to respond to your comments with a genuine dickishness the likes of which you would have expected. I refrained.

I didn't particularly have an issue with SJ's comment. I was a bit surprised that it blew up in the way that it did...honestly. I can't make SJ play me in x4. I'm aware of that. I did play NYPD once...to his X4 exactly 0 times. That's close...not entirely unbalanced. (Athena we're 2-2 only recently...otherwise I had a losing record to him in there). I showed balls though and agreed to his suggestion of Athena. I lost. Then the next day I recommended it. Balls.
I turn down levels I don't like. So does he.
I like Athena...though I couldn't seem to beat him in there...I had no excuse to avoid Athena and I told him as much. I embraced it.
I was just looking to goad SJ into playing some x4 with me. I was hoping that after losing to him 20-10 he would feel less threatened if he lost to me 20-10 in an x4 level...but even then he wouldn't give me a chance.
I have no official issue with that stance.
I do take a bit of a personal one with it however, and I told him so.
It is what it is and it will be what it will be.
I would at least like to play SJ 'for fun' in some x4 levels. I want to show him first hand what I've worked hard to master.
Side Note: Vainiac gave me an x4 match (he's not a fan). He asked for a No Missiles Fuzed afterwards and thusly I felt compelled to "get a little, give a little" and played him in it.

The meme that x4 is not true Descent is direct pushback against the meme that x4 is somehow the consummate Descent: that you're not really good until you've mastered that niche as Jedi and Drak have. I think it is only really an issue because our benchmark player seems to have this attitude, rather than Drak's rational perspective. I'm not aware of any claims that x4 mastery does not require skill--I've certainly never made that claim, even as one of the vocal critics of imbalanced Descent variants masquerading as "real Descent"--it's just that the skillset involved practically constitutes a different game entirely.
Imagine if the best players only ever played large maps with respawning vulcan. It seems to me that there is an obviously meaningful sense in which that is not how the game was meant to be played. Of course it isn't. It would be better to say, "no, maybe not, but it's my favorite Descent spin-off and I wish more people were interested in being better at it."

Wait, so *I* have that attitude that only x4 is real Descent?...and I believe that you aren't really good until you've mastered x4?
Did I understand you correctly?
"I'm not aware of any claims that x4 mastery does not require skill"
Well, I have personally heard many a shot taken at x4 as it being luck and skill-less. To my face.
Perhaps you would have heard it too....if you played as much x4 as I do.
