Hey guys - got my SW3DPro working with the manhattan usb thingy, including the twist-axis - I can't seem to calibrate it perfect, but maybe the stick itself is just old... anyhow, here's what i did. Hat works also!
* Set the sw3dpro to the 1-dot mode
* Put the manhattan dongle on "2"
* plug in the usb and wait for it to show "4-axis, 4-button josytick w/view finder" in the game controller CPL

Good to hear! I'd been advising people to insist on a Grendel adapter, based on DJ's experience. Sounds like that isn't necessary after all.

Merl, are you sure that it works for you if you press multiple buttons at once? Or maybe with your config, that's simply not needed. I bought one of those, but as I use 2 of the buttons on the joystick head for sliding (rather than the hat, just how I learned!) I could not fire and slide at the same time.
I.e., I believe only one button on the joystick works at a time. I'm not sure if the hat works at the same time as other buttons, but it might.
I do have a spare adapter that I'd be willing to sell at-cost if you end up needing one :). I'd been hoarding it as a just-in-case, but I think my main adapter is going to be fine. If so, feel free to email me at spgarber AT gmail DOT com.

Hmm, I never thought about putting the 3dPro in the analog setting. I must test this.

Just tested it. I actually remember this now, and why I don't use this setup. With the Rockfire adaptor (which looks identical to the manhattan), you can't use more than one button at the same time - including the hat. So, if I want to slide up and fire, depending on which I used second, it'll cancel out the other.

Loni -- the thread about the Grendel adapter is here:
It's still an active thread. You can find instructions on building the adapter yourself a few pages in. The last page has someone selling them as of yesterday.
And I'm back to recommending that people insist on a Grendel adapter. Not that I really understand why they ask ME in the first place . . . I'm a mouser and always have been. I guess because I know things about math and code and homers, suddenly I'm a technical expert on all things Descent? That's not really how that works.
