Or unofficial, for that matter.

You have as much right as I do to make things for Descent. Contests, tournaments, websites, levels, ladders, clans, mods . . . If you think it'd be cool and other people do too, go make it happen.

Do you want help in some specific way?

Yes please. I'm hoping you guys can take up Luke's suggestion of submitting the top 5 maps from the first round of voting to rotation ladder matches and have a second round of voting for DCL pilots who have played the maps in ladder matches. I already posted the contest around, emphasizing it as being for fun.

I don't see any reason to specifically exclude D2X-XL, but keep in mind it is essentially a ladder level popularity contest. Very few people on the ladder are willing to play competitively in D2X-XL. A level would have to have some really compelling XL feature (like, a compelling reason why it has to be played in XL instead of Retro) to get people to give it a look.

Duly noted and edited into the original post. I hope to see many people submit maps. Could someone post it in the Descent Pilots Facebook group? I disabled mine so I'd be less tempted to distraction while my babies are here.

So how are we gonna do this last phase? I'll need you guys to encourage the use of the top maps in DCL matches to see how people feel about them in the long run.
