30 day rank drop question

Now that we have a million people on the ladder can we make it if a player doesn't play a match every 30 days that they drop rank? They keep their color status of course but lose the rank that they can get back in one game when they are active. 8 people have 0 games in and it's been just about a month with the new season. This takes the guess work on finding new active people to play that perhaps don't use mumble. This will also clean up the ladder to look pretty! Sorry, this is just my OCD speaking.

Guess I will bump this.. If the seasons change to 4 months people should also be getting deranked faster for not playing. Right now there are a few people that haven't played in like 5 months.

Yeah, I think this is a good idea. I'd agree with 30 days inactivity for rankdrop in a 6 month season, or maybe two weeks for a 3 or 4 month season. Those who need to be away for more than that can use retirement.

Part of me is against this idea and part if me is for it. Afterall, it's easy to get your position on the ladder back quickly as it only takes one game...of course one game is hard to get only if that person you need to play is just idling on the ladder not playing. I do see the potential need for this but we also want to honor the fact that life can get in the way somewhat.

We already have a means of taking care of this to some degree. You can issue an official challenge to 3 pilots at once. If those 3 pilots do not play you during that 2 week period then they will be rank dropped.

This is something that we intend on automating at some point.

I see the need, but it needs to be *really* laid back. People who are new to the game tend to play ladder matches at a furious pace, but a lot of us disappear for a month or more at a time and still somewhat consider ourselves active. Do you really want a bunch of gold and silver pilots scattered through the low ranks of the ladder? Do you really want it so their one match a month isn't for the stakes (rank-wise) that it normally would be? I don't particularly.

But it is kind of silly to have someone floating in the mid ranks for several months as we have.

We're already planning to make the auto-retire more aggressive, at 90 days. I'm not sure I really would want auto rank drops in addition to that. Certainly not at a faster pace than, say, 45 days.

I'd agree at 60 days. That means a person only has to play two games a season to stay ranked. It's half a season if the season changes to 4 months.
