Two levels of sensitivity for keyboard

I don't have a great understanding of Descent's technical side and how it actually works, so I'd like to ask a question to anyone that does?
Would it be possible to have a key that upon pressing (and holding down) reduces the sensitivity of the ships aim (yaw and pitch) to a lower level than what it is currently set to, effectively creating two levels of sensitivity? For instance, in Soldier of Fortune 2 you can assign a key to press (hold) that will change running forward at full speed (forward movement key used in isolation) to walking at a reduced pace (forward movement key and assigned modifier button) and vice versa. Admittedly, this isn't the best example as its not comparing the same type of movement but its the best I could think of at the time.
I use keyboard only and have done since the first time I played the game. I appreciate there are plenty of other options to choose from but ideally, I'd like to keep the experience as similar to my first game as possible.
I'm not asking for any changes and would happily settle for a yes/no answer. As far as I am aware, I'm the only one who has asked about this and cannot reasonably ask for it (if possible) to be implemented. Take it as an opportunity to educate me and in the process, make me feel smarter.
