I had exactly this issue back when Quake 3 was a relatively new game -- when my laptop got hot, the left side of the keyboard (where my forward/back keys were) started to pick up a lag with key-up events if a key had been held down. It was infuriating to try to back up and just keep going forward, into the maw of death. This is definitely a thing that happens with laptop keyboards when they heat up.
