Core Level selection for early 2016
With the new season upon us, it's time to select the new set of core levels.
Given the importance of core levels to promotion challenges, we felt it important to get community input prior to making the final determination.
Here are the top 20 most-played levels on DCL during this season: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing -- measured in four categories: (1) total matches played, (2) unique pilots to play each level, (3) unique pilots to play more than one match in the level, and (4) unique pairs of pilots. If a level scores high in all four factors, this shows a broad level of popularity, and therefore indicates that it's a part of the core of what ladder players as a whole are interested in.
In the past, we have included levels that score in the top 10 in all four categories and don't have obvious disqualifying factors (such as having a heavily restricted weapon set or being part of a subgame), and included some levels that are top 10 in at least one category and reasonably close in all others. This season's suggested core list is to the right of the spreadsheet. Logic, Athena, Flea, Lurk, Mindtrix, Crimson, Ascend, Vamped, and Black Rose are all top 10 in all categories. Take2 is marginal -- it's in the top 10 in two categories, and one match behind 10th in the other two. Fuzed is also marginal -- it's in the top 10 in three categories, but 11 matches behind in total matches played.
My personal inclination is to include all ten of those levels in next season's core. The top 8 are obvious. Both of the marginal levels score high in several categories, and they're both fairly complete.
What do you all think? Is that a good core level list?

Boot Take2 to the curb. I love it, it's my home, but I feel Fuzed has withstood the test of time and is more deserving of being Core.

Either I can't count or I see eleven highlighted levels in the spreadsheet.
I'm thinking just include them all though. If we needed to cut it down to 10, I'd get rid of Fuzed personally (I would much rather be "forced" to play Take2... it has more dimensions). But it's not a "bad" level either.
I kind of see the Nysa argument - it never gets above #11, but it does feel kind of "core". But... it never gets above #11. Neutral

Just a thought: but I'm ok with 11 levels as well.

^Same. I would like to see both take2 and fuzed as core levels.

A lot of objective opinions here. Here's a subjective one.
Fuzed is KIND OF in 3 top 10's, because in Unique pairs it is tied for 10th with Take2 at 32.
For something like this, I would do average position, here's how that would work:
Take2: 10 in matches played + 11.5 in unique players + 11 in unique players twice + 10.5 in unique pairs = 43 / 4 = 10.75
Fuzed: 13.5 in matches played + 9 in unique players + 10 in unique players twice + 10.5 in unique pairs = 43 / 4 = 10.75
(For comparison) Nysa: 12 in matches played + 11.5 in unique players + 12 in unique players twice + 12 in unique pairs = 47.5 / 4 = 11.875
Tied. But only if we consider multiplied secondaries as core. If we are going with the concept that multiplied secondaries are NOT core, then you have to take Logic x2 and Logic x4 off the list, putting Fuzed alone in 12th in matches played. That would bring its average position to 41.5 / 4 = 10.375, and put it ahead of Take2. (Nysa would move up to 11th in matches played, putting it at 46.5 / 4 = 11.625. Nysa is solidly in 12th.)
So, I think Fuzed is definitely in. Take2 would be in if we consider multiplied secondaries core, but last I recall it was decided they weren't, which would kick Take2 out. Nysa is definitely out.
Also, more of you muthas need to be flyin' June Bug up in here.
