Name Change Shenanigans: don't make us make a rule
One of our guiding philosophies on DCL is that we don't want to make rules about things until they're a problem.
Name changes are getting dangerously close to that line. Please keep your name changes sensible and easily identifiable. I'd rather not have to start requiring admin approval.

The name changes are harmless fun. Don't turn this into the NFL (No Fun League).
The only way the name changing could become an issue is if it was done with the intent to deceive someone into making an incorrect match report.
just my 2 cents
also...don't change your name to 'inappropriate' things...but duh

It's getting to where it's hard to tell who played, and the messed up names are becoming part of the permanent record. We're moving past "harmless fun" into "annoying". Time to dial it back a bit unless you want there to be rules.

Plus, it'd kind of a point of courtesy to report matches under your most well known name, especially if that name means something. It makes them easier to feature and link to for one thing, and it makes it nicer to look at. If you do well against "Drakona", you might want to see that result, you know?

This is starting to get rather confusing.

I'm only speaking for myself...
but it is my intention to only play matches as Jediluke.
I will have fun with Mark in doing the duo-name changes...I will not confuze people or mess up records in any way by playing matches under a different nick that I don't intend to keep long term. (aka OBSOLEET)

I won't be playing matches under anyone but Mark392 or Goku (My brother called last week when we made the change, it was his request and he is deploying to Afghanistan again in the near future, so I'll be doing about anything he asks.). It is not my goal to goof things up, and I will keep all of this in mind! My apologies!

That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

All right . . . guess we needed a rule!
The rule is, you may change your name once per season. You may also change it back for free (in case you regret your choice, or it was never intended to be permanent). Also, the super long names are gone.
So you CAN throw a goofball name change party with your friends . . . once per season. But you only get one shot. So pick something funny and when it starts to get old, your only options are to change back or keep it.
Everyone's names have been changed back to their main ones. The site will let you change it once (and back) between now and March 29.
