It is now possible to rank drop yourself, if you want to. The option is under the report tab.
You can see what happens when you click it by looking at Jediluke, who has already made use of the feature.

What is the purpose of this? Do people want to climb the ladder again?

There is no "climbing" the ladder. You take the spot instantaneously when you win.
In my case, I'm a bit burned out and don't want to hold back other people from enjoying the top spot.
I might play some practice matches here and there but likely am not interested in actual ranked matches in the meantime.
No pressure.

That makes sense. Kind of a "retirement" deal.

yeah, it's a way to step down if you're not going to be active for a while, so that you're not blocking other people from taking over a higher-ranked spot.

Or you could say it's to avoid confrontation and playing pilots who you can't beat anymore.

I asked Drakona to create the rank drop as a means of self punishment and self healing. I am getting too angry in matches and recognized that I need to take a step back. While I can admit to my faults publicly and ask for help with them your brother seems to believe that he is an innocent victim void of any flaws and that he has free reign to attempt to dictate to others how they should play and call them cowards. Your brother doesn't give any respect so why should he receive any?
Don't confuse my rank drop with me no longer being able to beat your brother and hiding from him. My games vs him in nysa and logic after retirement speak for themselves.
Your brother said that "No one who's good plays me on this ladder" (said last night)
Your brother had 7 matches vs me. (so, he's saying I'm not good)
Your brother had 4 matches vs Diablo (guess he isn't good either)
Your brother had 9 matches vs DKH (sorry DKH, you aren't good)
Your brother had 31 matches vs LoNi_ (doh, I thought LoNi_ was good, guess I was wrong)
Your brother had 38 matches vs Mark392 (Mark, work harder man, you aren't good yet!)
He also played MD-1224, Sirius and Djcjr
So, he doesn't respect any of those pilots...why should they respect him?

I don't respect people who call me hacker every time i kill them.
And by saying "No one who's good plays me on this ladder" I meant I had been waiting all day for mark392 or rethink to come online and YOU wouldn't play me no matter how much i asked, so don't take that thee wrong way, i do know those people are good pilots.
I'm not trying to do anything wrong

I have a question, If you rank drop, will you affect rank if you play a ranked match?
