I watched the demo. It was actually quite nice. Ernie got behind Diablo a LOT, and when they did engage in dogfighting, Ernie was much more ready for the lag, which is to be expected given he has to deal with it all the time. Keep in mind there were 4 suicides and a reactor death, so that 20-4 was actually 25-9. Better, but still a +7, and still something that will confuse the algorithm.
I don't blame anyone here... if the information the admins have to go on say the game should be set to practice, then that's what they should do. I agreed with that at the time. Now that new information has come back, the situation has been set right. I agree with that, too. The only thing that could have been done differently was to view the demo before reacting, but it was unclear if the demo was available at the time.

if the players themselves did not mark it as practice, it should not be that it become marked.

If a player has to resort to giving excuses post de facto then they should suffer the consequences of playing in an inebriated state to begin with. To do otherwise is punishing the winning player for no reason and seems unfair to me.
However, If both parties agree to a dissolution of the match for any stated reasons then it could be labelled as a practice match.

birdseye, in principle I agree with you. A pilot should not play the match to begin with if he is hindered for some reason. The issue with him choosing to do so is that his extra low score (likely) vs an opponent in this state of being doesn't just affect the loser of the match here. Since every kill matters towards the skill rankings this person would have then affected A LOT of other pilots in their rankings. THAT is where it becomes a bigger issue....but not really one that can be remedied easily.
Also, the DCL does not allow for forfeits.
It is absolutely required that both parties finish the match from where the score left off if one person ends up leaving. There are no partial scores reported either. Or both parties can agree to call it off...IF they do NOT both agree to do so....then we force them to finish the match.

birdseye,
At least I am not the only one now. Many people come to me also about problems and things that have happen in game that have never been released to others. I have also been the mouth of some of the ones that have complained but really the pitchfork crew comes after you. I pretty much gave up on helping others out in this area because of this. Just like me stating this will problem start some kind of political crap as always.
