FPS drops

So I seem to still be having problems. I looked at mumble, and I already had disabled the overlay. I was running descent without mumble running and still had several times where frames were dropped. Does anybody have any other ideas?

Check CPU throttling? Descent is rather lightweight. I just caught an issue where descent couldn't motivate my processor to clock higher than 1.08GHz. I installed AMDs Overdrive software and pegged it at 2 GHz and stutter is significantly reduced.

Thanks Morfod. I think you may be right that it is due to throttling, but it seems to be more related to GPU memory throttling. I was playing while watching Cupid Hardware Monitor and noted that when the memory rate dropped to 300 MHz was when the FPS was not locked at 200 Hz. Any ideas on how to stop that?

Thanks LotharBot. I've looked in the settings for my AMD card, but haven't found anything similar yet. Google hasn't yet been much help, but I'll keep looking.

AMD Overdrive should be able to clock your CPU, GPU, and memory.

Thanks again everybody. I looked at overclocking, but it still seems to have the problem of dropping clock speed back to low rates at times, even during game. It's like the computer doesn't think descent takes any computational power, then gets surprised sometimes and is slow to adjust. This is fixed when I turn on the recording feature because it forces the card to keep clock rates up. Funny to think that taxing the hardware more leads to improved performance.
