Mapping competition Submissions Summer contest
Re: Mapping competition Submissions Summer contest
It didn't help that I played poorly in Valor. It could've been worse, but I got lucky with many smarts. Morf should destroy me in there on joystick.
I was ahead by 6 at one point in Ezra (14-8). He came back HARD to make it 18-18 before I got the final 2.

Drakona, have you built many original levels before? Valor looks surprisingly proficient for someone who isn't an established author... which is why I am wondering if you've done it before

Aww, thanks! I know how to use the editor pretty well from making the obs levels, and I have a pretty good idea of what's possible in the format (I think?) from source diving in general . . . but this is my first attempt at original design. Unless you count one level 17 years ago that sucked.
I'm pretty happy with how it plays, but I think I can do better. I think I made the rookie designer mistake of erring on the side of 'too complicated'.

Nice map, I haven't gotten the chance to have a match in it yet, but I'll choose you to play it

It's a lot more restrained than it could have been. The main thing I noticed was the use of textures, though; that may be partly because I've been watching someone else gradually develop their level building skills and they still haven't figured that out.

Ah. Well, I do have a design background in other contexts, and whenever DKH talks about level building, I take notes.

At the very last minute, I have three maps!
Cenote: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tdfvatbbbn84t ... 3.zip?dl=0
Saunterdown: https://www.dropbox.com/s/obqi8c223pbyh ... 2.zip?dl=0
And, since I made it within the last six months, I figure I'll go ahead and submit Antbend, texture glitches and all: http://www.enspiar.com/dmdb/viewMission.php?id=1008
(Hey, it's not the map's fault there's a problem with the way the game renders 4D space.)
These are all anarchy 1v1 D1 maps.
Thank you, everyone who helped me playtest them!

Let me present :
Bright corridors and dark dog-rooms, where the best place to hide is in plain sight.
Simple geometry, but with some devious twists and turns.
Many thanks to PPSKI, who taught me his technique for making cubular levels, and how to use DLE.
