I'd agree, Birdseye was the most successful pilot when factoring in all 3 Descents.
Djcjr, I'm not sure what you mean by the old Jedi out BSing me. I think I'd know just the things to say to piss off that bastid.
Oh, a good example of old Jedi on IDL w/stick and new Jedi on mouse on DCL would be to watch the Jedi vs Destiny Athena demo and then watch the DCL Jedi vs Mark Athena demo.
Then you'll understand the differences.
Jedi vs Destiny Athena: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sahdjv05ul08i ... D.DEM?dl=0
Jedi vs Mark DCL Denver LAN Athena: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ko8pne9opqdpa ... Y.dem?dl=0
It isn't even the different decision making going on....pay attention to how poor the aim is also vs destiny. very poor.
lol, after watching the Denver one vs Mark...that was pre me adding banking to my mouse....my maneuverability certainly suffered then by comparison to now.

That was a well thought out observation, I suppose I look at it differently because I'm not half as good as I was around 08-11 but I believe you I'd you say you're better now than before, even though it doesn't seem that way to me

when we launched this ladder I was sure Birdseye and kufyit were the best of all time (specifically at D1 1v1; I'm not really interested in D3, or single player, or CTF, or Quake 2 deathmatch, for the purposes of this discussion.)
Then I watched players get better and better and better. I watched people pull off better dodges at closer range. I watched people pull off more impressive maneuvers. I watched tactics that used to work stop working because people developed more and more countertactics. And then I watched old top-level pilots come back, de-rust, and still look like they were playing slow because the game had changed so much. And I looked at old demos and I saw that the things top pilots were doing in 2002 were the things low silver pilots were doing in 2015.
There are a lot of reasons for it. Better hardware, better framerates, better connections, better consistency (25 fps homers) all help. We do things now that were impossible back in the day because the game itself couldn't handle it. But it's also just... we put a bunch of competitive pilots together who had built up top-level skills in every era, and they all started learning from each other and trying to get better. Sure, there are some tricks we lost along the way -- every so often an old pilot will come back and play in a way that others have to adjust to. But on balance, those who are flying now have built new skills on top of old skills, and are therefore better. Not "smarter", not "more deserving", not "more talented", just... a few years of extra practice worth of additional skills. I think right now, b2af would be comparable to any of the old legends at their old peaks, Lady Silver would be dominant, and bahamut would be untouchable.

I am in this thread right now to publically apologize again to jediluke and friends of the DCL, I don't like to cause issues or anything, but sometimes it gets hard not to say anything about "certain problems".
