Old school level development tools

Postby Lee » Sat Jan 20, 2018 3:18 pm

Descent has a wealth of developer tools that are both highly effective and easy-to-use. Many of these have become redundant since most were made over twenty years ago and a lot of people have difficulty running them on modern computers.

I've been using a lot of these programmes since I was just a little kid (Devil, DTX/DTX2, RBotEdit, Yahoma) and have learnt some more since coming back (D3Edit, HAXMEdit, Polytron, SDL_Devil). Having come back to Descent I've been using a laptop that runs Windows XP, allowing me to use the vast majority of these developer tools.

So to get to the point, if you'd like some help with your levels or if you'd like to learn how to use some of the older tools then please ask (here, DCL pm or just find me on mumble).

Lee, I know this isn't a level request thing or anything, but I want a dogfight room with a hippo in it w/ a cat laying on his neck.

I mean, a level with an ostrich wasn't enough for you?

Cyrus I accept though it will have to join the queue. I'll make it a small dogfighting level called catfight staged in a cage with the 3d hippo/cat monument in the centre. It will have:
• two cubes high by probably five wide and long (more circular than square if possible)
• spawn points spread out around the perimeter not stacked
• open energy centres spread out around the perimeter
• four vulcans with a ridiculous amount of vulcan ammo and two smarts (maybe two spreads in case someone bogarts the vulcan ammo)
• possibly turn the vulcan ammo texture blank to see if it runs better
• a one way cage/fence wall texture for the cage (ideal for observing)
• a crowd of cats watching on

And Roncli, one is never enough :)
