Re: Skills
Thought I'd throw this out there:
- Keep things as they are
- Anyone that reaches the Diamond skill rating of 24 gets an Orb by their name while they maintain it
- If they maintain the orb through a certain # of diamond + gold matches (3D + 12G?), they get the promote to Diamond challenge. Gold dominance + skill rating could still create a Diamond challenge also.
- Make the promotion challenge level choices the same as in Gold and below (Players can decide together, but if they can't it is a random roll) rather than the 3 forced rolls the current system has.
This would bring some excitement while not changing the history behind the current system. More things to shoot for are fun, and challenges are exciting to watch; but making to big of changes on the ladder hurts the fun of history/continuity.

hehe
Rethink
vs Mark392 (Rethink has won 4% of his matches vs Mark for a record of 3 - 58) a 20-12 lifetime average score
vs Jediluke (Rethink has won 11% of his matches vs Jedi for a record of 27 - 210) a 20-13 lifetime average score
Rethink has historically matched up well vs me. Then again 11% win ratio isn't really all that impressive is it? Despite having a lot more losses vs Rethink the average score is only one point different from his scores vs Mark.
Stats are fun!
just pickin' on ya Tommy! all in good fun

Actually, you don’t give yourself enough credit, Jeds! 27/237 = roughly 11%! Tommy has won 11% of his games against you, not 27%!

Alright, had a quick Mumble meeting with Jedi. Apparently I didn't follow all his thoughts in this thread, because they made more sense on Mumble. He asked me to condense in a way that was as clear as possible:
- Platinum replaces Diamond
- Diamond would become an achievement unlocked for any Platinum pilot that met the Diamond requirements (Skill rating + gold dominance). No challenge required (they did the Platinum challenge), just a Platinum that becomes Gold dominant; this would allow someone to still achieve the same goal as Mark or Jedi. Mark & Jedi would immediately be in the Platinum tier with the Diamond Achievement.
- Platinum challenge triggered the same way the Gold and below challenges are triggered
Undecided: The Platinum challenge itself. I proposed that it be identical to the others challenges (Agree or random roll), but Jedi seemed to think 2 core rolls + 1 extended core roll would be good.
That seems like a very interesting idea. I don't think a lot of people could make Platinum (it's possible nobody or only 1 person) but there would likely be a number of Platinum promotion challenges which would make for great special Obs events for me and Roncli to feast on

The details of the Platinum Challenge would need to be ironed out.
24+ skill rating? (no gold dominance factor required) to qualify.
You choose to accept the challenge or not.
The challenge consists of what?
What kill goal do ppl need to obtain? Average score of 17 across 3 games per Platinum pilot? (same as current Diamond challenge goal) or do you change the kill goal required from 17 to something else?....if so what and why?
How many games per pilot? 3 seems to be the right number considering there are currently only 2 ppl that qualify for platinum.

If you were going to do this, the 17 number would maintain consistency for the Diamond Achievement to not need a challenge -- nice and simple. I haven't heard people complain about averaging 17, but the dominance thing has come up from many pilots, the Plat Tier Diamond Achievement seems to address that.

fair enough. I'm certainly ok with the 17 kill goal. This all seems like a fair compromise to me.
Diamond remains a thing that is unchanged other than the way it is represented and all qualifiers don't have to be met at once.
You can make Platinum Tier with out ever unlocking the Diamond Achievement....but can't make the Diamond Achievement with out having met all original Diamond requirements.
Diamond would not be a tier but basically a life-time achievement award or HOF (Hall of Fame) induction of sorts.....we would just have to figure out how it would be displayed/recognized. ie: invuln orb or something else.
