I know this is random, but to spice the forums up forever. Imagine the person who wrote the post actually saying the things they post.
Like I can just imagine Jedi actually saying "Solid Advice, Melvin."

FFA is also good for getting a feel for how effective each weapon is in different circumstances.
One mind-game thing you can do even in FFA is pay attention to where you're getting kills, where you're dying, and where other people seem to prefer to hang out. And think about how to use that to your advantage. Can you spray shots into areas where others like to hang out? Bait people into coming into areas where you're strong? Avoid areas where you're dying a lot, or at least change the way you're flying in those areas? Those skills will transfer to 1v1, and vice versa.

Fight for honour, have courage and play for the love of winning.
Want it more than anyone else. Put the hours in, clock up the games and reap the rewards. Soon enough your actions will become instinctive and your decision making will improve greatly.
Dispel all notions of perceived skill or ability. Let your Descent do the talking. No single game regardless of the performance, can determine just how good you are. Watch yourself at your worst not just your best and learn what not to do next time.
Accept every challenge. Seek out the best at their best. Be bold. Be expansive. Become the toughest mother who ever lived.
Learn all of the weapons. Play all of the levels. Try different styles. Keep an open mind. Don't look for quick fixes or take shortcuts.
You may never be as skilful as your opponent but that doesn't mean you can't outwork them and it sure as hell doesn't mean you can't want it more. Sometimes thats really all you need.
Never tilt. Never concede. Never throw. Its only over once its over. Show your opponent respect by giving nothing but your best at all times. Fight for every kill. Learn from every death. Never allow yourself to get discouraged. Keep moving forward at all times.
Stay hungry. Have heart. And fight for everything.

Thanks for the thoughts, all -- it's been interesting to read over approaches and meta-meta. Keep them coming -- birdseye touched on mindgame but I'm having trouble divorcing that from just knowledge of the game itself and trying to read/guess your opponent's actions. Still dying to dumb tricks that I couldn't even see setups for, bad leading, etc,. I've watched hours of OBS footage over the last week. Still feeling like I'm playing on slower software -- anyone else's roll have a weird snappy auto-leveling thing to it? Think it might have to do with moving my mouse while rolling, but I'm not sure. Limited turn speed is frustrating and something to work around for sure but I'm not sure why I can't seem to spin as fast as anyone else. (To that end if anyone wants to fly a scrimmage on rebirth .60 with an uncapped turn radius, let me know! I'm dying to know what it's like.)
