Re: Core Level List Update
To quote myself, quoting this day's youth in an earlier response to Dj... "Lolwut?"

Any variation of a level that's different than what the original author intended, should not be included in a "core" list. This would include all NH, LH, NYPD, and x2/4 modifications.

given the general apprehension for Logic x4 as a core level expressed here, it won't be on the core list. But you can still always ask pilots to play there (the worst they can do is say no), and you can challenge someone who holds the x4 trophy.

We'll revisit this when it proves to be definitively too popular to ignore.

I think I'd be okay with it IF multiplying weapons were part of base D1. I don't think it was, but I could be wrong there as I didn't play enough D1/2 to remember.

I think people are confusing the principle of the 'core levels' due to the name. By core levels we don't mean ...what Descent was at it's core...in it's most original form. We are simply speaking of the levels that pilots play the most in 1 v 1 that have more than 1 weapon in them.
This one happened to be in that group. It gets played by quite a few ppl, not just me.
Perhaps this season it will be even more.

I agree with djcjr's definition.
In order to qualify as a core level, it must be as it was introduced by designer and that is commonly played. Hence, Athena with original homer count should be considered core if it is commonly played. Thanks djcjr, your posts are always well-put.

Our philosophy is "pilots lead". Not level designers or game designers, but pilots. If pilots play Athena mcap 6 more than any other level, and there aren't large numbers of people objecting, then it doesn't matter how many missiles were originally put in by the guy who built Athena, Athena mcap 6 is the core level. If pilots play Logic with vulcan removed more than any other level, then Logic-no vulcan would be a core level. If people played Fuzed Mx3 Gx2 the most, that would be a core level. The level builder's intent is simply irrelevant.
The reason Logic x4 isn't included has nothing to do with the fact that it was built with fewer missiles. It's simply that a large enough group of pilots see it as outside of the core of Descent -- as a subgame rather than as part of the main game. (Note that "Ugh" in fully original configuration is non-core, but in theory "Ugh" with some other weapons could be eligible as a core level.)
