Core Level List Update
Re: Core Level List Update
Wrong thread I know... but what assman is saying is a huge problem for anyone trying to learn how to use mouse in descent.
We all know that mouse movement is a management issue, if one moves mouse too quickly it will not track at all. THIS IS A PROBLEM and should not be this way.
If you move your mouse too quickly you should still be able to attain maximum turn speed in descent. I'm not saying u should be able to turn as fast as u move your mouse, I'm just saying that descent should recognize that you are trying to turn and allow the turn to happen instead of just not do anything at all. In order to turn at max speed in game u have to move your mouse incredibly slow.
This is frustrating even to me... Anyhow, can this be fixed?
The reason it should be fixed is for this example: Your in an intense 1v1 and you are startled by your opponent, you are using joystick so your twitch reaction to turn and shoot nearly breaks your stick off the base (gratefully your reach maximum turning speed in the processes and you can hit your opponent after you successfully turn your ship.)
Now put your self in a mousers hands... you are startled by your opponent so your twitch reaction to turn your ship causes you to slide your mouse quickly across the mouse pad, unfortunately you DIE because in the heat of the moment you moved your mouse too quick and the game failed to acknowledge you wanted to turn and reached .2 maximum turn speed What a JOKE! So we mousers are forced to manage a natural reaction first before allowing ourselves to turn and shoot because we have to settle down and make sure we turn the mouse SUPER SLOW in order to turn fast. This is a huge disadvantage. Any ideas??? -DKH

I can see how this might level the playing field for newer players. Then again, I also wouldn't want to mess up what I've worked hard to attain. Despite getting rattled I never move the mouse faster than it should. That did take time to learn and plenty of discipline.
So, so long as turning the mouse slowly in that 'sweet spot' still attains maximum turn rate and turning it faster than that doesn't slow it down I'm ok with this I think.

That is very weird. I always thought it was just that you ran out of pad before your ship could come up to speed, but I just tested it with a gargantuan pad and . . . nope. Moving the mouse fast really does make you turn slow. I have no idea why.
I'll put it on the Retro 1.4 list to investigate and hopefully fix.

+1. This was one of the things making me shy away from playing mouse at all, and I know The@$$Man has been having thoughts of suicide over this issue. Hell, he suicided 5 times on me in our last match.

Whoa.
Yeah, I was in the Jediluke school of thought here - I really haven't noticed the problem for a long time because I don't overturn by that much even when someone does jump me. But it definitely shouldn't penalize you for wasting mousepad. Wasting mousepad is penalty enough on its own.
