Re: Dear Descent 1
Well, maybe *my* smarts are harder to dodge than D3 ones.
...at least, if you're used to having afterburners to dodge them with, apparently.

Yes SeaWyrm, I think that is what it boils down to. D3 smarts might even be faster than D1 smarts, but I need to learn how to dodge them all over again.
As far as Zenith goes, I will try to be kind to Naphtha if I ever meet him, but it will be hard...
Morfod, I do agree with you, the guide bot is a cheesy addition. Not to say that I haven't used him, because I have, a lot. But I see your point, and your right.
I don't understand what you guys have against the afterburner though. I guess if I STARTED Descent in D1 without it, maybe I would feel the same way? I don't know.
And how about the rear view mirror? Does it take away from the suspense or something? Not being able to be fully aware of your surroundings? Never knowing if someone is sneaking up behind you, unless you surrender your frontal view for a split second, which may be all the time someone needs to destroy you. I stand my ground on this one.

Serious answer to "Why do your smarts seem to like my ship so much?":
Smarts in D1 behave differently than in D3. In D3, they have a constant speed. In D1, they start slow, but if they are tracking your ship (ie: you hear the lock sound) they SPEED UP. Speaking as a D3 pilot, once you figure this out, they become much easier to dodge in D1.

ooooooooooooooooooh (light bulb)
Thank you for the explanation on the smarts Roncli and Lothar, that will be very helpful in future.
I guess I still haven't tired of "who has the fastest reflexes"
I don't have a whole lot of 1 vs 1 experience. I have kind of an aggressive play style; I like actively pursuing pilots, instead of sneaking up on them. Admittedly it sometimes backfires on me, but it's usually not what people are expecting. So while I understand what you are saying, I can't relate. But I'm sure I will learn as I play you guys.

That sounds very painful, Jediluke, but I'm game. I'll be on later tonight.

D2 1v1 gets a lot better if you don't just play Neptune. Without so many of the pinpoint weapons people live longer than in D1, because the traps don't work as well - they have to be really good to get a sure kill.
Of course, with what players are like in D1 these days... the matches could go on forever.
