Re: Proposed Challenge Rules
Hello!!
I just got home and read all the posts. I didn't want to cause such a big discussion.
I would like to expose some points and discuss the matter further, but my bad English can cause a wrong interpretation of some arguments, but all Ritides arguments were perfect, i really appreciate your position bro!
I have to agree with part of your arguments too Jedi. For your information I have been trying to run Windows, and did it once on my wife`s computer and with a trial version of Parallels (wich costs U$79,99 the full version). But unfortunately I had troubles in both cases (wife`s computer sucks, the game locks up sometimes and Parallels has shortcuts with some keys that i use to slide or bank). I am still trying to figure out a way to fix that.
I really don`t like to force anyone to play a non-homers version and I fell constrained when I heard people saying: -"Retro-homers?". - "We have to do non-retro homers cuze LoNi_ is playing".
About that dual boot, I`m not sure but I have no idea about how to do it on Mac. If is there a way to do it I`ll find out... actually I`m "goggling" it right now.
Anyway I still believe that 58.2 will come out for Mac with all that fixed, but in my opinion some homers, vulcans or spread should not be excuse for anyone to get a game going, if it`s not a DCL match we can do for fun, after all what really matters is having some fun.

Okay, see my link above and go post! I mentioned 3 things:
-Smart missiles
-Mega missiles... are these also too aggressive in the current Rebirth release?
-Vulcan... was it correct in 57.3 but too strong in 58.1, or something else?
Please go comment, especially if you know the answer to the last 2 questions above!

Whatever you do to homers happens to mega missiles as well. The code doesn't distinguish between the two.
That's actually mostly true for smart blobs as well. The smart blobs do have a special piece of code for their acceleration, though, and that has to be handled carefully.

Could you share any technical thoughts you have on smart blobs in that thread I linked to, Drakona? I don't really know what to say other than "I hope you can fix it" ;)

Well, I already posted a debugged, heavily playtest validated, heavily analyzed, open source solution. In fact, at this point, it has so many playtest hours behind it that we know the really subtle effects. It's been rejected.
Can't say I'm really interested in contributing further, given that experience. Nor do I think my analysis is really welcome or even necessarily applicable. Different implementations will yield different bugs.
Anyway, that piece of code got analyzed to death in the homer thread. I'm pretty sure that at this point Zico already knows anything I could possibly tell him about it.

, for anyone confused about the Vulcan. In summary: v0.58.1's Vulcan works exactly like the original D1 and D2 weapon; v0.57.3's was modified in multiplayer.

Drakona, that is frustrating. If he won't listen to the most knowledgeable person in our active 1 on 1 community then I have little faith he will give us what we need.
Starting to look like a fork is more imminent.

We'll see. I really do have every expectation that the homing weapons in 58.2 will be indistinguishable from retro homers. Hamer02 looks good analytically, but it hasn't been proven through playtest, and where I come from, proven code isn't something you throw away. But we'll see.
There's no reason to threaten forks just yet in any case -- it's not like I'm actively working on the game. And while half of me finds the idea attractive and wants to be able to fix things without worrying about stepping on other people's sensibilities . . . the other half of me really doesn't want to have to learn how to build for mac and would rather just collaborate. And then there's the third half of me that would really rather just play.
