I Lurk
Just wanted to let you guys know that I find it absolutely fascinating that there is still an active community of people playing my #1 game of all time I visit here about once a week for a few minutes just to see what's going on.
Unfortunately, Descent, while I love it, just seems too much "in the past" for me to play anymore. Not in a technical gameplay sense, but for various personal reasons. But it occupies a very meaningful part of my past and I will never forget that. Does this mean I will never play it ever again? No, but if I ever do I'm not sure when that would be. It would be crazy cool if I checked in and people were still playing in 2035 for the 40 year anniversary!
These days my gaming is in shorter bursts, for example android games on my Xperia play (which unfortunately just died due to I spilled Monster energy drink on it) or MAME stuff like I play in my retro games club ( ) which currently consists of just me and one other friend.
Anyway. Yeah. You guys keep rocking, I think it is awesome. And maybe one day I'll join in
By the way, does anybody know if anybody still hangs out in the Kali Descent channel? The last time I checked was about 7 years ago and there were still about 20 people. But I figure it has probably dwindled by now (?)

Well, Kali hung on until around 2010, then it started a slow decline. Sadly, some of the old timers are dying off. It went from 20-30 when I joined to 5-10 now.

Yeah, Kali isn't as strong as it used to be.
The other place you should potentially check out is the Descent Rangers. Your first option is to just get on their mumble server (which DCL has piggybacked on ); instructions are on their webpage. Number of members varies greatly through the day but there's usually a few people willing to talk or someone who can take a quick, casual game. They also have a forum that's not as active as this one, but still sees some chatter. Check it out - descentrangers.com
The other choice, of course, is to become a full member of the Rangers (like I just did - I'm a Cadet, to match with my lowest-tier bronze ranking here). It sounds like that may not be the best option for you because you need to play several games, get people to sponsor you and vouch for you, take a match rules test, and other things; that's a pretty serious investment, but it can open you up to more games. So if you ever feel like seriously returning, this would be the path for you. Personally, I've had a great experience with them.

Goldie,
I remember the name. Hope you come back and play. It's pretty easy to set up and its fun. You can come in and play a game and jet out for a week or two - there's no pressure. There are a lot of people who do that. I hope to see you soon
