I watched that part of the demo. I think in the demo Cyrus' shields drop from the missile BEFORE the frame in which the missile hits. Perhaps the damage is done before the explosion animation. It seems to me that his shields dropped appropriately, but I'm no expert. It is hard for me to tell how many plasma shots hit, but based on the amount of damage, I would guess one more blob around the time of the missile.
Also, I think the shield counter is kind of broken in demos. Watching it backward gave different values than watching it forward.
EDIT: I didn't interpret Morfod's post as an accusation of cheating. I think he is posting because he felt like he really deserved a kill there, and is confused as to why it wasn't granted. If I had watched the whole demo, I'm sure I would have seen instances where there is normal appearing damage done by a homing missile.

The only thing I can think of is that this is a bug similar to where if you're moving backwards and a smart hits you it explodes but doesn't kill you. However, in that case you DO take SOME damage.
I'm curious if anyone else thinks that the homer might have hit the wall?

Other potential explanation: The plasma and homer hit at the same exact time, only one counted. Highly unlikely at 200 fps, but in the demo the frame just before the homer hits, the shields change from 59 to 48. IIRC, the damage actually happened between the frame you're looking at and the next frame, which is when the homer clearly hit. It's not immediately clear when the plasma hit, although a blob disappears in the same frame that the homer is shown exploded.
I haven't looked at the code, so I don't know if something like an invulnerability frame is a thing in Descent, but I always assumed that if you got hit with something, it did damage.

Things like this happen all the time it just gets brushed under the rug and I don't really blame it. Its part why I give up on caring for the most part on trying to get it fixed (if its even possible.) I had tons of videos like this where homers would hit but nothing counted. I deleted everything and just play to have fun (I play even harder now but little things like this don't bug me anymore.)
From the video the first homer was a close one to the right (probably really did miss.) The 2nd part is where he gets his by one plasma ball that took 11 shields 59 to 48. The missile did nothing which it should have at least gave splash damage from hitting the wall (looked like it hit the ship but its really close.) The demo playback does seem to be bugged when you play it till he has 26 shields and rewind back it shows that he now has 37 shields and not 48 shields. Did he take splash damage or did he not? Who knows...

I will also point out at 96% Cyrus takes 30 shields from a homer to the face, so it's not game files, probably just something in the code.

I don't know what we're analyzing at this point.
The demo shows me get hit by a plasma blob and drop down to 89 health. (100-11 = 89)
He then fires a homer IT CLEARLY MISSES ME (you can see the splash ON THE CEILING as I turn backwards and curve away from it)
The second homer does hit me ALONG with one plasma blob dropping my shields down to 48. (89-48 = 41) x is the fucking homer (x+11) = 41; x=41-11; x=30

What we would want to see are demos of the person on the receiving end, like this demo of Cyrus. If you take a demo of someone else not getting hit by homers you think should be hitting them, it doesn't matter, because it's what the client sees that matters, and latency can really change what happens. It's why I've scored two kills with one smart missile in anarchy games before... each person who died saw the smart tracking on themselves.
There is a known bug with rewinding demos that I actually learned of during the whole USA Boxed edition investigation. If you get hit with two blobs of plasma (or any weapon) in the same frame, you take the full damage, but when you rewind through that frame, only ONE of the plasma blobs is, uh, rewound, for lack of a better term. If you continue to rewind, the previous (next?) hit will restore shields to what it was. He clearly did not get hit by any damage but plasma in that frame.
