Minor Rules Change (Game Settings)
Re: Minor Rules Change (Game Settings)
One thing that might be relevant: DMB2 and early versions of DLE-XP had no system that allowed you to automatically set the cube light value. This was probably only introduced some time around 2007 or 8, and many people probably still forget to use it. You still could manually set cube light on a cube-by-cube basis I think, but this would have been so tedious nobody who wasn't a total perfectionist would have bothered. Kruel might have, for instance, though I think he worked in DEVIL. I didn't realize the significance at the time because I was mostly playing levels in D2_3DFX.
I don't know for sure whether DEVIL had an automated system for this. I vaguely recall hearing from someone that it did, but never investigated it personally. I do however remember that some people who worked primarily in DEVIL used to use DMB2 for the automatic vertex light calculations because they felt it worked better.
P.S. Well, technically DMB2 did have an auto-light option, but it was a flat value that was applied to every cube in the level no questions asked. (If a level has black ships, that probably means the author had it set to zero.) It didn't do dynamic per-segment lighting based on nearby lights until Diedel introduced it into DLE many years later.

Yeah, DEVIL has a way to automatically illuminate the mine. You do have to use actual lighting textures, but you can hide them behind regular ones if you want.

I don't have a problem playing 10pps, (how it used to be.) whereas everybody on the top plays full blast 200 fps, fast vulcan, custom builds and I'm stuck being shunned for not using bright player ships, what the bleeep

My man! No one is shunning you for not using bright player ships! (Unless I'm severely missing something) The original point seems to be that changing the setting without telling the opponent is, fo sho, at least in poor taste! That's all! Poppin' on a hosted game at 5 pps should get me some questioning looks if I did it to someone without asking! Fo sho!
