Wired / wireless connections
Wireless connections are clearly an issue on the DCL. I think that an open discussion conducted in the right manner could be beneficial. If you have something to say, you should post on here and talk it over. I want to hear what everyone else thinks as I already know what I think, because I'm the one that thinks it . Also, I play on a wireless connection and have done for the past 644 DCL matches.

I think people know how I feel about wireless also. I am extremely untrusting of the quality that a wireless connection provides for Descent ever since my last LAN at my house in which one of the pilots connected via wireless to play us wired folks in a game and the quality of connection or lack there of was very noticeable....and that was on LAN! add distance and hops and it just compounds the issue.
I find wireless connections, including yours Lee, to be very frustrating.
I find it difficult to enjoy a game when my opponent is wireless.
Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way and it's my own personal hang up....who knows but I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Everyone knows that I'm ...um....vocal about connection issues in game. I'd rather not be....I'd rather be more Mark392 than Jedi but alas I am who I am. I will gladly honor any request to mute myself in game or of course you can deafen yourself as well or not be on mumble....but it won't change my opinion regarding wireless connections. Just sayin'
-------------
I'm not saying that people on wireless connections should quit the DCL....however...in a near perfect world we would all be wired for our connections at least (if not living in the same Descent Community Compound on LAN)
I don't refuse to play people that are on wireless....I play them plenty...but I'd sure rather play them on a wired connection.
There IS most certainly a difference in quality when you compare wired and wireless connections.

Wired has a throughput that is, IME as measured by google speedtest, an order of magnitude larger than wireless.
Run a cable, it usually isn't difficult or expensive.
Either of those points on their own should be enough IMO.

I believe that the Best pilot will adapt the right way in EVERY situation, Every time. That being said, being able to adapt to 300-5k ping is just another one of those things, that if you don't want to do it.. well just don't?

Nothing wrong with the best pilot desiring a level playing field. Let's stay on topic.

I agree with Melvin on this one. Personally, I just want to be on a level and fair playing field as free from lag and loss as is possible.
I'm not even referring to 'high pings' which is possible even for people on a 5gb wired connection (ask ernie)....I'm talking about the packet handling issues of wireless. It's far more inconsistent even with 'lower pings' as proven when we tried it on LAN.

Seriously, cyrus saying he doesn't desire a level playing field in order to be the best pilot is the truest thing ever written
