RNG has no place in real competitive games (e-sports.) Good thing we just play this game for 'fun'.

Descent is not a card game. CSGO a real esport, LoL a real esport, DOTA a real esport, and so on have very very very little RNG. With the RNG they do have it wouldn't allow an insta kill from spawning.

Descent was created in 1994. E-sports was the furthest thing from Parallax's mind, I'm sure. Let's be real, Descent 1 is never going to be an e-sport. If a 6DoF is going to make it, it's going to be a modern game that takes typical e-sports concerns into account.
That doesn't mean that Descent is not fun to play, and that doesn't mean that you can't play Descent competitively. But none of us do this professionally. I don't run The Observatory as a professional show, Drakona doesn't run the DCL as a professional ladder, and zico doesn't work on Rebirth for a living.
As for spawn kills, once you realize it's part of the game - and as Birdseye will tell you it took me a LONG time to realize this - they don't rattle you. And, as mentioned ages ago, they don't really affect the outcome of a game that much. They certainly don't affect the long term skill of a player because you take some and you give some!

Well... Hearthstone is apparently a major e-sport and it is a card game - complete with plenty of RNG. Much more than Descent has.
There is no reason an e-sport can't have RNG, it just has to be manageable so that the result of the game isn't too random to see a skill progression.
