It's said that those who can't do, teach. But Drakona is proof that those who *can* also can school people. It's been noted before that she was a student of Jeds in the past, and I couldn't have had better proof of that than my last ever DCL match before the Legacy era. Her fast flying and efficient use of weapons kept me on my toes, and that Smart Missile to my face not only was a fitting end to my short experience pre-Legacy, but speaks to how efficient Drakona is as a player; to be able to willfully and skillfully do that without much of any need of luck. Her skills as a pilot are definitely worthy of the Gold tier, and her hosting and management of this Ladder is invaluable. But that barely scratches the surface of her impressive set of skills. Her creation of the Retro source port is probably among the most important of relevance to the Ladder and to the overall Descent community today. Drakona is definitely one of the most talented people in the community both in and out of the game.

When watching Jeds in action--whether as an observer or as his opponent--he seems less like an expert of the Pyro-GX and more like one of the top ace VF-1 pilots from Robotech; what with such excellent dodging of missiles and mastery of using them in combination with some of the most powerful primary weapons. In recent years, there've been comparisons between him and the Level 7 Boss; what with having a penchant for Smart Missiles and efficiently using them, but as apt a comparison as that can be, that's selling him short now, given his increased efficiency in primary weapons...most notably the Fusion Cannon. Scrubs (like this writer) will most definitely find it uncommon (if not rare) to *not* be shut out by this man, but if how one deals with defeat is as important as any other aspect of Descent, then having Jeds as your opponent will definitely serve as quite the learning experience.

Morfod is a swell guy. Interesting vocabulary, an odd sense of humour, and a high level of skill. I am definitely glad that my time in this small community has had someone like him. He was never one to turn down a teaching opportunity, or to have a conversation. Sometimes he'd reach out to me just to see how my life was going. I have some good memories of fighting someone who embraced my unusual choice of home level, or when he suggested a mentoring game where he observed and Wats and I faced off. I don't think we ever really had a rivalry, per se, but we have played 50ish matches together and the wins and losses are pretty much split down the middle. I have had some really memorable games with you. Two matches in particular have been fused into my memory and rise to the surface: the hilarious, intense and long-running Barathrum match that finally ended 27 - 25, and the match in June Bug where you out-played me so effectively that I lost my cool (which was pretty rare) and afterwards I had to go outside and sit on the back step to collect myself. I should also mention that you were one of the pilots willing to play me in Descent 3 when I first joined the DCL and Descent 1 was yet unfamiliar to me. Swarthy has always been an admirable competitor and good friend. Easily rolling with my bad pirate jokes and never failing to demonstrate a willingness to put up a good fight. I've played before, and now I'm playing again, and it is intensely satisfying to see someone with such a commendable attitude towards the game to advance in skill. Not all hard work and perseverance is rewarded, and while Swarthy doesn't have the shiny Gold name due to logistics, he was truly on the precipice and is Gold in all but what shows on the website (or would be soon anyways).
